If you haven't screamed the lyrics to "I Believe I Can Fly" with your friends in the car, you've clearly been "Trapped in the Closet" for all these years. (Seriously though, you have to give R. Kelly mad props for sustaining a 32 chapter-long opera -- as much as you tell others how ridiculous it is). The pro-basketball-player-turned-King-of-R&B has exploited himself like no other musician, from writing music for 2012's Sparkle film to producing his own Christmas album last year. He's also become a timeless classic for the club -- We can confidently say that people will never stop "bumpin' and grindin'" to "Ignition Remix." You better believe that R. Hamlet: Madness in Shakespeare's Greatest Tragedy

Buy Tickets $12 - $62 $15 - $102

Without a doubt the most famous play in the English language, Hamlet is much more than a collection of quotable lines, like the legendary soliloquy that begins with "To be or not to be?" It's also a thrilling tale of political intrigue, murder, madness and duels to the death. Hamlet is one of theater's greatest anti-heroes, caught between his duty as a son and his desire for moral purity. He is haunted by the rage-filled ghost of his father, who won't rest until his death is avenged. Even worse, every time Hamlet hesitates to take action, it's his friends and loved ones that pay the price. With a cast led by Tony Award-nominee John Douglas Thompson, this will be an unforgettable theatrical event at the A.C.T. theater in San Francisco.

When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theater involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first musical. With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, Something Rotten! is "The Producers + The Book of Mormon x The Drowsy Chaperone. Squared!" (New York Magazine). "Misled from childhood, where I went astray; Till this day I still pray for a better way. Can't help but feel hopeless and heartbroke; From the start I felt the racism 'cause I'm dark." These lyrics appear on Tupac Shakur's "My Block," a song that forms the spiritual backbone of this Broadway musical that utilizes the words and music of Tupac to tell a non-biographical story about family, camaraderie, revenge, change and, ultimately, hope. The harsh realities of inner-city life remain as relevant now as they were when this show's songs -- like "Dear Mama," Me Against the World" and "Hail Mary" -- were written, and the lessons found within are profoundly important. For the first time since its Broadway debut three years ago, Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon brings Holler If Ya Hear Me to the stage at Atlanta's Southwest Arts Center.

This witty battle of the sexes pits snobby London linguist Henry Higgins against Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl plucked from the street, as he attempts to turn her into a well-spoken society woman. But his feisty pupil gives him much more than he bargained for. With a score full of instantly recognizable Lerner & Loewe songs like "The Rain in Spain," "I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?" and "I Could Have Danced All Night," it's no wonder My Fair Lady became a huge Broadway hit and, in 1964, was turned into an Oscar-winning film starring Audrey Hepburn. The acclaimed Seattle Musical Theatre kicks off its 40th anniversary season with this romantic charmer.

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is both a delightful love story and a biting social satire that remains popular 200 years after its publication, for both its wit and its emotional resonance. August: Osage County: The Darkly Comic American Family

Buy Tickets $13 $30

At an Oklahoma farmhouse, the Weston's alcoholic patriarch has gone missing. The family gathers hoping for good news, but instead find themselves coming to grips with old closeted skeletons and festering wounds that resurface. Populated with tour-de-force characters such as Violet, the prescription drug-addicted, chain-smoking, acid-tongued family matriarch, August: Osage County by Tracy Letts is a black comedy that has the mesmerizing effect of watching a deliciously choreographed train wreck of epic proportions. This wickedly funny portrait of a truly American family held a spot on Entertainment Weekly's "best-of" list for the decade, described by the magazine as "a lightning-fast jolt of pure theatrical electricity." Don't miss the play that won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play -- see it at the Vintage Theatre in Aurora.

Sharp Satire & "Theatrical Middle Finger"

Buy Tickets $25 $50

An Octoroon is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Obie-winning raucously irreverent riff (think Gone With the Wind meets Looney Tunes) on a 19th-century antebellum melodrama. At a plantation on the brink of foreclosure, a young man takes a fancy to the mixed race daughter of the estate's owner, while an evil swindler schemes to buy the girl for himself, while the slaves try to keep things sane. Billed as "part period satire, part meta-theatrical middle finger," this incendiary adaptation by Jacobs-Jenkins, a recent MacArthur "Genius Grant" winner, was lauded by the The New York Times as "... this decade's most eloquent theatrical statement on race in America today." Don't miss An Octoroon when it comes to Portland's Artists Repertory Theatre.

This seething examination of "political correctness" is particularly timely given that the nation's morality has been tested by increased incidents of sexual harassment. TIME magazine named it one of its "Ten Best Plays" of 1992, and Roger Ebert called Oleanna "one of the most stimulating experiences I've had in a theater." In Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet's two-character drama, a college professor and his female student become embroiled in a war of words that takes a dangerous turn when perceptions differ and one accuses the other of sexual exploitation. As the serene campus transforms into an explosive battleground for justice, Mamet dares you to choose a side in this story that's sure to generate heated discussion afterward. See which side of the debate you fall on when Evening Star Productions brings Oleanna to the Sol Theatre stage in Boca Raton.
