In 1936, an anti-drug propaganda film called Reefer Madness was released, portraying the disasters that ensue when some teenagers decide to try "marijuana" -- otherwise known as the devil's drug. In the 1970s, the film was rediscovered and became a cult classic due to its over-the-top portrayal of the alleged dangers of smoking weed, which include death, destruction, madness and ... jazz. Inspired by the original film, this tongue-in-cheek musical comedy continues the hijinks in an even wackier form, memorializing the melodrama in songs that range from Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes. It would be a big mistake to (puff, puff) pass on this production of Reefer Madness: The Musical at Victoria Theatre in San Francisco.

Two heavy metal giants, Scorpions and Megadeth, join forces for a night of headbanging at the Forum in Los Angeles. Riding the first wave of metal in the '70s, Scorpions unleashed a string of classic anthems like "Rock You Like a Hurricane," "No One Like You" and "Wind of Change." More than 50 years since forming, they're still rocking: in 2015, they released their 19th album, Return To Forever. Helping pioneer the thrash metal genre in the early '80s, Megadeth has weathered a hard road in becoming one of metal's biggest bands. Now the five-time platinum-selling band is going stronger than ever, recently winning a Grammy for the song "Dystopia."

This provocative play now comes to Atlanta's Actors Express, offering an unflinching look at faith -- of any denomination -- and its power to unite or divide.

Welcome to Los Angeles in the not-so-distant future. A deadly virus has swept the earth and a team of scientists has burrowed deep into an underground laboratory to find a cure. As they search for an antidote and fight to save the world, each move becomes crucial -- if they accidentally set off the computerized decontamination system, they might be smashed flat by the slowly constricting laboratory walls. There is a buzz of excitement in the air when you pass the Market Theater's famous Gum Wall and enter a world of comedy. People are lined up at the concession stand and the smell of fresh buttered popcorn fills the air. Over at the bar they are serving up icy cold drinks and everyone is getting primed to laugh. As you enter the theater, you feel the beat from the music and then it's on. BAM! This is Theatresports. Seattle's longest-running show with some of the best improv the Northwest has to offer. At Theatresports, teams of improvisational actors use their quick wits to create scenes on the spot, based entirely on audience suggestions. A panel of judges -- sometimes including guest celebrities -- then weighs in on which team is the funniest. Be prepared with clever suggestions to throw out, because the two most valuable audience ideas win prizes. The Seattle Times theater critic Misha Berson called Theatresports "the most polished improv troupe in the city."

Gregg Allman may have passed in the spring, but his spirit lives on with the Laid Back Festival that he founded. Close out your summer in style when food, beverages, music and more come together at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater. The music lineup features many of Allman's friends, like Jackson Browne, who's written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, raw emotion and personal politics. He came to prominence in the 1970s, gaining fans with such iconic songs as "These Days," "The Pretender," "Running on Empty," "Doctor My Eyes" and "Take It Easy." British rock icon Steve Winwood possesses one of the most captivating voices in popular music, as front man for such legendary bands as Traffic and as a solo artist with a string of hits. His '80s era chart-toppers include memorable classics like "Higher Love," "Roll With It," "While You See a Chance" and "Back in the High Life Again." These heavy hitters are joined by Peter Wolf, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band, Garland Jeffreys and Scott Sharrard & The Brickyard Band. The one-day event also celebrates New York's diverse food and drink, and a plethora of restaurants, food trucks, breweries, wineries and other artisans will be on hand for your dining and drinking pleasure.
Audiences loved the long-running NBC sitcom The Golden Girls, tuning in weekly to laugh at the bawdy antics and hilarious quips of geriatric roomies Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia. Now, you can be a live audience member as an affectionate, original stage-show drag parody comes to Stage 773 in Chicago with an all-male cast portraying the silver-haired ladies live on stage as if they'd never left their Miami home. During The Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes, you'll see the ladies step in to be Den Mothers to a group of Sunshine Cadets, band together as Rose struggles with a debilitating malady, and enjoy a brand-new "lost" episode in which Blanche indulges in a hot and steamy encounter with a much younger man! Golden Girls trivia and prizes will also be part of the fun.

How about a bacon-inspired cocktail? There are delicacies galore waiting to be tried, as well as carnival rides, live music, a bacon-eating competition, games, crafts, a pig pen, and more -- truly something for every member of the family. And while you indulge, know that a portion of the event's proceeds will go to Texas Lion Camp, a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, type 1 diabetes and cancer.
Prince and Michael Jackson were two of the most prolific and talented musicians of our time, and they were both taken from us far too young. Fortunately, their music will live on forever, and you can hear songs from the repertoires of both icons in one night when the Harlem Gospel Choir comes to B.B. King Blues Club in New York City with a double tribute. Blues, soul and rock and roll all have origins in black gospel music, and the Harlem Gospel Choir blends the history of gospel with the pop sounds of today. From "Purple Rain" to "Billie Jean" and beyond, you'll hear all your favorite hits during this concert tribute from the most renowned gospel choir in America.

Some comedians might take offense if an audience member fell asleep in the middle of their act, but Mike E. Winfield takes such moments and turns them into laugh-out-loud improvisational comedy. "Don't apologize," he told one guy who was caught dozing in the front row. "Do you know how many laughs we got from you?" Winfield, who's appeared on NBC's The Office, has performed his observational stand-up comedy on The Late Show, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, Showtime's Comics Without Borders and BET's Comic View. He also hosted Fuse TV's Off Beat, where he commented on the funniest music-themed viral videos, and co-hosted Logo TV's satirical news program, The Straight Out Report. The charismatic Baltimore native tells hilarious stories about the hardships of everyday life. See him live at Punch Line Sacramento.
Perhaps you're wondering what it is that makes this festival for beer and bacon lovers count as a full-fledged jamboree. Is it the unlimited tastings of 60 different beers and ciders? Is it bacon samples from some of the world's foremost bacon pros? Or is it the hopping musical stylings of classic rock and country band Whiskey Burn? Turns out, it's all three -- because an evening of fine brews, savory bacon and fiery live music is exactly what a jamboree ought to be. Come and see for yourself when the Bacon and Beer Jamboree comes to Plymouth Memorial Hall.

Ariel is now older, wiser and she doesn't have a single f#*k left to give! This loving tribute is for all those women and girls who thought life would be like the Disney Princesses' ... but found out that it's usually more like The Simpsons. Laugh-out-loud funny, charming and thought provoking, The Menopausal Mermaid features fabulous costumes, delightful drag, yummy dancing mermen and songs that span the diva repertoire. Enjoy full table and bar service when the show comes to Club Cafe's Moonshine Room.
For a singer with such powerful pipes, it's something of a shock to hear vocalist Emilie Surtees describe herself as primarily a "listener." Then again, maybe it's her extraordinary capacity to listen that gives her tribute to Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker and Whitney Houston its amazing accuracy. Surtees not only replicates hit songs, power note for power note, but communicates the soul of each singer who originally recorded them -- something that requires not only incredible vocals but also a profound appreciation of music. Be moved and amazed by a tribute artist every bit as talented as the singers she honors in this concert at Groove.
